Important Information about Weight Loss Injections (Mounjaro)

BACK TO MAIN INDEX

You may soon hear in the news that GPs can now prescribe weight loss injections such as Mounjaro from June 2025. While this is true, please note that the eligibility criteria are extremely strict, and prescribing is not yet fully in place.  At Sarum Health Group, we estimate that out of our entire registered population, fewer than 10 patients will meet the criteria. Some of these individuals may already be receiving Mounjaro for diabetes.

The Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW) Integrated Care Board (ICB) has not yet confirmed the prescribing pathway for eligible patients. This means that even if you meet the criteria, we are currently unable to prescribe Mounjaro for weight management until further guidance is issued by the ICB.

Eligibility Checklist

To be considered for treatment once the pathway is available, you must meet all of the following:

  • BMI over 40
  • A confirmed diagnosis of at least four of the following five health conditions:
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure) requiring medication
  • Obstructive sleep apnoea (diagnosed in a sleep clinic)
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Cardiovascular disease (e.g., heart disease, stroke, or vascular disease)
  • Hypercholesterolaemia (high cholesterol)

If you do not meet all of these criteria, we will not be able to prescribe Mounjaro under the current NHS guidelines.

Other Support Available

There are other excellent weight management services available locally. We recommend visiting the Wiltshire Council website for free support options, including their Healthy Us Group Weight Management Programme
